Favorite lunch of our trip, by far, is still the tortas at Tortugas Torteria. The Carnita (my order) and the Cubana (my husband’s order). Or course, we shared so that we could enjoy them both. The incredibly personable service, clean restaurant, easy ordering, and DELICIOUS food will keep me coming back for more tortas on future trips to LA! I wish I could have ordered everything on the menu!! Till next time, yummy tortas!!

I learned from Tortugas that the Mexican Torta has its own culinary space, and really is not just a sandwich. While the venue is humble, judging by my order and the pictures posted, one can tell each sandwich is judiciously assembled to convey a flayered-experience. I have an urge to say there could be more girth, but a look into the historical prep shows that the thinly pounded milanesa, the buttered buns, and the mosaic of aromatic veges are crafted into place. The paper wraps up a very composed package with tastes that end up running together to make a very wholesome bite.

Hands down best tortas I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I come here every weekend. I always get the Cubana, which I highly recommend, and she gets the jamon. Excellent service and pricing as well. If you want a torta this is the place to go. They also give you homemade chips.

Pretty nice place. The cubano torta was delicious, and the sauce and chips complemented it perfectly.

Awesome find! Homemade potato chips here are worth the visit alone. Then grab one of their tortas, holy cow! I did the bistec torta, but honestly, everything on the menu looked worth ordering. One bite into the torta and you are transported to another dimension. The flavors explode and the textures are perfect. This was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Phenomenal!

To be honest, I had zero idea was a Torta is, but the Yelp reviews were great, so I decided to pop by (I was especially drawn by the comments that Tortugas is a local restaurant with everything made from scratch).  I met three wonderfully friendly workers who made pleasant conversation while I ate and more importantly explained what in the heck a Torta* is (a sandwich).  I had the Chorizo Torta (or something like that), which was tasty and filling.  Most surprising to me, I ate my entire plate of (homemade) potato chips, which were delicious although I generally don’t like or eat potato chips.  Anyway, that was nearly three hours ago, and I’m still pleasantly full and happy from that meal. In short: I loved it here, I will definitely be back during this trip and again in future trips, and I appreciate the people who made me feel welcome here/there.

* Note: One of the things I love about being blissfully ignorant about so many things like Tortas is I get a chance to engage people who are more knowledgeable than I am on a regular basis! 🙂

Delicious tortas – love the milanesa and the cubana. They just started an awesome lunch combo too with really good aguas frescas – Torta + Agua Lucha for $10. Great deal for the area for sure.

The Milanesa de pollo was delicious! My son loved the kid ham and eggs torts. We will be back.
