Today I finally made it for a torta at Tortugas.  Being from Mexico City and having tried many torta places I can tell you that this place did not disappoint.  I had the Torta Cubana and it was delicious.  The bread was fleshly baked and all the ingredients tasted good.  I would definitely come back for a different torta.

When on the left coast, Mexican food makes up 70% of what I eat. On my search for something to feed my fix for the day, Yelp reviews led me to Tortuga’s. Thank you, Yelp. Delicious. I had the chicken ranchero and though I’m not a huge fan of Milanese style, it was still great. The reason it gets 4 stars is because the portion wasn’t as big as I would have hoped for the price but to be clear, it’s worth the money. I’m sure I will return before I head back east. And the homemade chips are great too.

Aaaaaaammmmazing!!!! My husband had stopped by here a couple weeks ago while he was on a bike ride. He came home and would not stop talking about how great the Cubana torta tasted. We stopped by today before the UCLA game and I totally get why he was impressed. I had the Bistek and the flavor was amazing. My daughter had the Chiliques and that one was so good too. The torta is very filling and so flavorful. The bread is thin, soft and perfect!!! Can’t wait to go back!!!!

I ordered the milanesa de res. The ingredients were top quality and all the flavors blended perfectly. I’m usually not a big fan of jalapeños, but they weren’t too strong and were a good addition to the torta. The staff was friendly and there was a good ambiance. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying the bistek.

We were craving tortas after our friend recommended Tortugas Torteria a few days ago. It was our first visit and we had the chance to experience this little gem. Ambience and service are nice, and the pictures on the wall are great.

All of their tortas come with a side of the most delicious potato chips ever, no salt needed. We ordered the carnitas which was delicious. The carnitas has meat and cole slaw inside. No sauce needed in my opinion. I was so hungry, I devoured it in a matter of minutes. Good thing we started with the carnitas though instead of the Bistek (which was highly recommended by our friend) because it was quite salty for our taste. Their bread is on point though. I had high expectations for the Bistek. I was disappointed in myself for not ordering the Cubana or the chorizo because something in my gut was telling me to get one of those items, but I didn’t. I am coming back for those.

Good luck looking for parking and good luck walking past King Taco lol.

This is now my favorite place to eat it is so good and the wait is short but it is good! I also love how it’s Mexican theme and it has places and pictures of Mexico. You can chose through many food items. The staff is really nice too. Then they serve you chips which are homemade and they are good. They have multiple sauces to choose from. My favorite place in a restaurant is the cooking place and here you can see them and it is really cool!!!

This is the go to lunch spot for Pasadena. The worker –
Desiree was so nice to us and had a great attitude. The restaurant is cool and clean, the food comes out quickly as well. I cannot recommend this place enough.

This place has blown me away, enough that I have come to eat here two days in a row!

Both times the customer service and the food was amazing. The first day I got the Cubana and the second day I got the Bistek and they were both amazing!

Desiree was very helpful and gave me some great recommendations, will be coming back when I’m in the area.

The Gods must have been listening to the prayers that emanate deep from within the echoes of my tummy’s soul.  Straight out of a cinematic plot line involving myself as a naive protagonist facing off with the villainous King Taco lunch line.  Surrounded by this army of the dead, the Tortugas A-Frame display, illuminated the environment like one of Danaerys Targaryan’s dragons.  Torta specials and prices gleamed like sun kissed scales and presence.

I literally jumped out of the way of King Taco, and went straight to this culinary refuge known as Tortugas.

These tortas were sooooooooo good.  And I’m so excited that there are 16 different options to choose from.  I was with a co-worker and we ordered the Adobada and one of the Milanesa’s.  i don’t remember.  But it was amazing!  We split the Tortas, and I wished I had more space in my tummy to try more.  The bread was perfectly toasted and yet soft, the sauces were packed with flavor.  The moment I bit into the torta, I visually imagined an episode of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives, where the owner kind of walks through how he makes the sauce for Guy Fieri.  Where the Tortugas owner is like, I throw in this bomb ass ingredient, and then simmer it for 7 weeks to lock in the flavor.  and then I do this thing to it for 7 months to unlock even more flavor…and so forth and so forth.  and then boom I make that Guy Fieri ohhhhh face after I take that first bite.  And that’s just the sauce!  I didn’t even talk about those thick slices of pork shoulder, the slices of queso fresco!  My fave.  Onions, Pickled Jalapenos, Avocado, Chipotle Mayo….writing this review is making me hungry.  I want to jump on the Downtown Santa Monica Expo Line and take a two hour trek over to Pasadena just for a chance to taste this yummy goodness again.

On second thought.

I’m jumping into an Uber now.

This is an ordinary experience and I will recommend this place to all of my family and friends. Did I mention the homemade chips? The chips were fantastic and out of this world as well as the tortas. Amazing food. The Cubana is incredible. Really friendly service. Normally there’s no line at all, but not the speediest service.

First we were going to basic ass king taco but we decided to try this other Mexican food place which happens to be right next to king taco ! funnnyyy
Anyway the plates they have remind me of home for some reason and the food was pretty freaking fantastic. Also their staff is very friendly and even though they don’t have music playing we were lucky enough to hear of the staffs amazing voice
